Orientation continues...

We had to be at school by 10 this morning for what was supossed to talk about 15 minutes according to our schedules. We got there a little early and headed on upstairs to the room where they were having our Official Registation. We got called in when it was our turn and began the nightmare of registration. We had to fill out an address paper with our french address...luckily ours is easy to remember. Then we got our passport and visas copied to be put into our files. After waiting in like for like 10 minutes we were told since we weren't European we had to go over to the next room and fill out the paper work to get French Social Secruity before we could continue. But...before you can get that you have to have a bank account set up in Rennes...so we waited in another line to get that set up. Then we migrated to the next table to get our Social Secruity. I sat down with the lady who they said spoke English...but aparently she spoke neither French nor English. After I had to spend way to long talking to her...and her confusing me like crazy, we got to go back over to the other room. Did i mention she smelled horrible!!!! We were waiting in line to pay for our social security when the smelly lady tapped me on the arm to tell us she had done something wrong. We had to go back to the other room for her to tell us to write one word on our forms. Not to mention my arm smelled for a long time after that. Once we got away from her and got back in line in the other room, I realized almost my entire form was wrong...clearly this lady was not super smart. I had to look at Morgan's form and change a lot of my form...which ended up making me look like the dumb one. After we paid for our social security and turned in our documents for our files we were almost home free. We got to pick up a cute free shirt and then we went back into the crazy room to talk to the cell phone people. We were able to get sim cards and cheap cells phones that have pre-paid minutes/texts on it. Thats exactly what Morgan and I were hoping for. That way we will be able to talk to each other if we are apart and/or we can talk to the people we meet.

Once we finally finished the craziness that they said would take 15 minutes it was 11:30. We had 2 hrs till our next meeting so we walked back to the metro station and I was finally able to get my bus pass. There was a bus waiting there that went back to our school so we hopped on. Problem was...we didn't know you had to push the button when you wanted off. We got to the end of the route and the guy was done for the day. He made us get off and wait for the next bus to pick us up...thankfully it was only about 20 minutes. We rode it back to school and made sure to push the button this time. We got back about 10 minutes before our next meeting.

The meeting was a presentation by the bank...which we had already set our accounts with...and the lady in charge telling us about how to move into an apartment. (Pay your rent, read your contract, take pics before you move in, make sure you keep it clean) Everything that would have been much more helpful...before we all moved in. Needless to say...that was 30 minutes wasted of our time in France! Oh well. After our meetings we had over an hr till we started getting our computer configured so we grabbed a sandwhich from the cafeteria and headed into the student lounge to hang out. I got a pepsi from the vending machine. Aparently no one in France knows to check the change dispenser of the vending machines...both of them in the student lounge had change just laying in them. After we ate our lunch we talked with some of the other America students in the student lounge then it was time for our computer training.

We had to download some special format off the school's website to be able to use the actual website. It was confusing and to top it off we got to learn from an asian man who had a french accent...mixed with his already broken english with an asian accent. We got all we were supossed to done today though, a little earlier than 4:15 like it was going to be, and we get to learn more on Thursday...and finally get to see our schedules...which are on the internet we just don't know how to get to yet. We did get to set up our email though.

After everything was done for the day we got on the bus and headed home. It was so much faster than walking the whole way. We are both still having a hard time getting used to the new time zone and are both exhausted. We both kinda nodded off this evening after we got home from school. After our power nap I made us some canned ravioli and we had dinner while watching the French version of Wheel of Fortune. Now we are both just chilling, she's emailing her mom. It was super nice here today...hot even. It got up to like 81...just with no humidity. I wore shorts cause i had luckily checked the weather and we were real glad to have our bus passes this afternoon.

Tomorrow we don't have anything at school till 2 so we are going to sleep in a little and then watch a movie on my computer on our pull out couch while having some chicken nuggets we got at the grocery store. Hopefully they are yummy. Well I think thats about all for today.

  1. Geez. Sounds like a crazy day. Glad I was in the U.S. While you guys are thinking those crazy (smelly) French people they are probably thinking those crazy (Deodorant smelling) Amercians!
